Developed Structure

This is the development on the initial structure.

Further Development

The idea of directing light from the cavity between the roof and the wall began here.

This is the proposed way of connecting the ramp to the structure.

5 Real Time Images

I have decided to open up the meeting room as well as the labs (yet still maintained certain enclosure for the real-time situation consideration), this is because both Kuepper and Darwin work closely with nature, and by having no obstacles in between is the best way to achieve such intimate relationship.

Further, the reason for choosing simple white lights is the consideration of the function of the labs. After all, labs are different to night clubs.

1. The meeting room is divided into upper and lower levels. It was originally 1 flat surface, however, by digging deeper into the ground with 2 unequal levels suggests that the way of thinking does not have to be strictly from one aspect. Each level is a square shape, if cannot come to an agreement with ideas, go to another level, and from there think again 'outside the square.'

2. The space between the roof and the wall is intentional. This allows the sunlight and artificial light to illuminate through the cavity and cast strange and different shadows each time onto the floor or wall nearby. The changing shadow is perhaps a way of encouraging creativity and a statement of adaptation.

3. This is the artificial ramp. It acts like a transaction stage between two completely different environment - from coming up with ideas to exchanging ideas. When walking down the ramp the meeting room gradually appears on the left hand side while on the right hand side the wall abruptly stops and suddenly exposed to nature. This reinforces the idea of 'adapting to think and experiment' from all different angles.

4. This is the ramp formed by the landform. Instead of taking the client straight from the ground to top level, Kuepper has the choice to take this long and winding ramp, which takes her outside her normal working environment, allowing her to feel differently at different times of the day, and perhaps helps the client to 'think outside the square'.

5. This is the overall shot of the 9 intersecting prisms. The positioning of the structure allows the sun to shine through both the top and ground level without blocking the view, highlights the idea of that everything gets the same amount, it is all about equality, rather than a 'competition'.

Applying Final Textures

Heavy texture, applied to the wall facing away from the sun. It is a representation of the artificial light projecting onto this wall, and whenever something or someone walks pass-by the image of the object or person is also been projected.

Light texture, applied to the one part of the wall of the meeting room. It shows the gentle touch of the sunlight makes with this wall before everything else within the room.

Medium texture, applied to the roofs of the structure. Inspired from the rays of the sun, representing the tangential contact of sunlight with the lower roof.
